Assignment 5 / midterm

The country I targeted is China and I related my initial idea to preserving endangered wildlife, which I then further narrowed to specifically focus on Pandas. The application idea I came up with is called the Panda Locator. Functions of the application would include locations of Pandas in their natural habitats; this would also further assist in the protection of them from poachers and such. Another function will include Habits of the animal including, sleeping, eating, and travel patterns. Also included is a population tracker to monitor growth rates, average age, and birth rates. The final function of the application is a stream of fun and interesting facts about Pandas not commonly known. The implementation of this idea is easily within grasp as there is already extreme scrutiny over the endangered Panda population, access to knowledge pertaining to facts, numbers, populations, and statistical data is already readily available and need only be used in conjunction with an application to support it.

Assignment 4

The semantic web is an extension of the web bringing structure to meaningful content and creating a space where software can readily carry out sophisticated tasks for users, better enabling computers and people to cooperate. In the future developments will continue to thrive and significant leaps will be made in functionality as computers become better at processing and understanding the data that today they only display. To function computers need access to structured sets of inference rules they use to conduct automated reasoning. There are 3 essential technologies involved in the semantic web, 1st being  eXtensible Markup Language lets everyone create their own tags to annotate webpages, giving you the ability to add structure, 2nd being Resource Description Framework which gives the structures created meaning , and the 3rd collections of information called ontologies used to compare and combine information.

10.   What are the differences between JPG and GIF files?
The JPG extension stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is a compressed version of a BMP, so an image loses detail when saved in JPG format. The software determines which details are too small for the human eye to see. It then discards that information and creates the JPG file, because there's a loss of detail.
The GIF extension stands for Graphics Interchange Format. A GIF is another form of a compressed BMP. An image saved as a GIF retains all of its detail because "lossless compression" is used. Lossless means no information is lost when you save the image.

wikileaks assignment 3 pt1

Wikileaks is a non profit organization that shares classified media from anonymous sources, the website launched in 2006 under the sunshine press organization. Originally the site was designed as a user-editable wiki, but has moved towards a more traditional publication model and no longer accepts either user comments or edits.  The organization is run by a global group of volunteers, who publish material that allege government, corporate, or individual misconduct. The primary interest of wikileaks is in exposing oppressive regimes in Asia, Africa, and the middle east, but also to assist the people globally who wish to reveal unethical behavior. This non profit organization is dependent of public donations receiving its main financing  through conventional bank transfers and online payment systems. I feel that wikileaks can be a good thing it creates an outlet for the people to express their concerns of unethical conduct without out the fear of being in the spotlight or receiving any kind of backlash thanks to the anonymity provided.

Assignment 2

The first step in securing ones respective Facebook and Twitter accounts is to enable HTTPS instead of just your basic HTTP, means that you are securing your communication between the server and your computer. All the information delivered to and from your computer is completely secure.  Another step that can be taken is the use of two step authentication or login approvals. Enabling this service you will be required to use the password and security code sent to your mobile device. Finally one of the last things you can do to secure these accounts is by enabling login notifications which notifies you when someone logs in from a suspicious location or computer.
Google plus – is a great online competitor in online social media and has really set the bar for bringing everything on the web together in one location, its ahead of its time and will probably grow exponentially, but right now for me there isn’t enough for me no one I know is on it and I find it has too much stuff, a lot of bulk for the few features I desire and in particular it takes a learning curve to get the hang of it as it has so many features.
Tweet – is a post or status update on twitter
Re tweet – is sharing someone else’s post
@ - a comment aimed at one user, but visible to the public
# - hashtags, words beginning with a #, help keep track of specific conversations
+1 – supposed to get the conversation going, gives your public stamp of approval
